OUR STORY

Two years ago we had an idea we'd start a bakery. Or maybe it was five. We did a lot of things you might call obstacles to realizing that idea. But really they informed and prepared us. Also, we made stickers.

Before two years ago, we owned and operated a food truck. We made awesome sandwiches, never argued, and catered parties. In summer the truck was very hot. In winter the truck was very cold. We sold the truck.

We loved our truck customers, and loved the way running a business revealed skills we did not know we had, and loved being a team. We cook. We eat. We cook more.

  • One of us is a professional chef outside of this new professional cheffing. He is a magician.

  • One of us was a professional eater and drinker (food and drink journalist) and is pleased to return to that role (chef tester).

  • One of us has chronic digestive health issues.

  • One of us has a gluten intolerance that triggers migraines.

We’re hyper aware of ingredients. What do you want in your body?

If a chef can make lesser ingredients taste like magic, imagine what he can do with greater ones? We feel lucky and grateful to have access to the world's best butter, chocolate, eggs, flour, nuts, oats, syrup, and so much more. We want to be part of sustaining the goodness we have, and improving the future of food.

Can a brownie make a difference? What about a bouchon (those cork-shaped brownies), or a granola bar?

The Pandemic started and we were, like, WTF, and spending more time together than we had since we had the truck. So much cooking happened. We had been baking for friends but hadn't considered it a career path because when you are a professional chef/eater you think only professional bakers and pastry chefs do that.

Which is true. But the Pandemic turned everything upside down and more and more people, including ones we didn't know but heard about us, were begging us for brownies. They liked how our baked goods tasted and made them feel; how they slept better and woke easier.

Friends nudged us. Our accountant nudged us. Family nudged us. Friends and family of friends and family nudged us. But running a business is hard. And running a business is fantastic (largely in the sense that you fantasize a lot).

One day the sun was shining and we said: Team Beach Street. The baking gods sprinkled sugar and it was time. So here we go. Welcome to Beach Street.
